Checklist of Bats found in Nepal

Relatively very little information has been published on Nepalese bats as compared to the adjoining regions. The study of bats in the Himalayas has a long but sparse history, with a handful of relevant publication. Some 128 species are known from south Asia occupying diverse niches in both natural and human modified ecosystem.

The taxonomic numeric of Nepalese bat species reports seems inconsistent with very less taxonomic input. However all reports confirmed the existence of fifty above bat species to the country with possibly occurring additional about 17 species.  A checklist of 53 valid bat species in Nepal has been reported. The reported number of bat species represents about 5 % of the world bat diversity and over 40% of South Asia’s bat diversity.
