One of the most unbelievable Internet things I’ve ever seen.

Via /film:

YouTube user Palette-Swap Ninja has taken the entirety of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and rewritten the lyrics to tell the story of Star Wars: A New Hope. It’s an incredible piece of parody work that may even make Weird Al Yankovic a little jealous. Marvel as the titular track from the album is turned into “Princess Leia’s Stolen Death Star Plans” and Luke Skywalker gets made fun of with lyrics saying “Luke is in the desert and whining” set the tune of “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.”

The creators briefly commented on the difficulty in getting this project just right:

“We sweat the details on both sides in an effort to do both cultural milestones justice. Writing hyper-specific lyrics that match the original songs’ cadences; reverse-engineering everything the Beatles recorded, from distorted saxophone riffs to Indian tabla rhythms; recording everything from scratch and learning as we went — well, that’s what takes five years.”

Here are the first two cuts from the album:

But my personal favorite is the final cuts. Amazing how some of The Beatles’ original lyrics match up with the events of the Final Struggle in SW:IV:

You can watch and listen to the whole Star Wars/Sgt. Peppers mash-up here.

This world may be going to hell and a hand basket, but the delightful and endlessly surprising creative spirit of people keeps fanning the embers of hope that we can make this thing known as humankind work.
