This tableware series crafted from Ohko stone is produced by five skilled artisans specializing in the unique stone processing techniques found in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. The Ohko stone used in this tableware series is classified as a black, hard shale formed geologically between 200 to 300 million years ago. Due to its pure black color and properties that prevent long-term alteration, it has traditionally been used as inkstone in Japanese calligraphy. The plates made from Ohko stone feature uniform particles and a glossy finish, offering excellent heat retention and cooling properties. The natural black color of the stone is well-suited for Japanese-style dining tables as well as other modern styles.
