Diana’s spirit returns to her younger self for the fourteenth time. Unable to cope with the idea of repeating her cycle of mistreatment as an orphan and eventual imprisonment again, she tries to kill herself by attacking a noble attending a festival at the temple. Darwin decides to adopt the traumatized miss instead and slowly she embraces her new life as Esther. She shakes up the duke’s household which has been suffering disconnection after the loss of their matriarch. Ester also discovers a connection to an abandoned crown prince and a destiny laid out for her by the goddess. *****----------*****----------***** This series is not earth shattering, but it seems like a good representation of the genre. Our time travelling lead has a tragic backstory which she must overcome to be happy. The broken family and revenge elements weave together. The story is a bit simplified but that is matched to the juvenile characters. Some of the strange magic like snake swords is never explained but they are not central to the emotional journey of the story. The drama is of course drawn out for longer than needed but that is part of the format for these kinds of novels. Some readers will be upset that individuals only ever get punished for what they managed in this lifetime. Still it is an easy read if you want some light therapy banter and cutesy fluff.
