Brexit: Economist claims no deal will be 'absolutely fine'
Polly Toynbee, 72, has faced calls to resign after she claimed the UK would have a change in heart as early as this Saturday because “new, young Remain voters would tip the balance of old dead leavers”. As she launched her outrageous case for second Brexit referendum, the Guardian journalist said the “true ‘will of the people’” could turn out to be the “will of the dead people”. She wrote: “You could call it swing Saturday or crossover day, for this Saturday, January 19, marks an important moment.

“This is the day, in theory, when the country turns remain. Even if not a single person has changed their mind since the referendum, the demographic shift alone will have done the heavy lifting.
“Enough old leavers will have died and enough young Remainers will have come on to the electoral register to turn the dial on what the country thinks about Brexit.”
She suggested Britain had seen a “predominant movement in the pro-Remain direction” as she accused leading Brexiteers of “toxic lies”.
Her remarks rapidly sparked fury on Twitter, with users describing her comments as an “absolute disgrace”.

Piers Morgan helped the reaction erupt when he wrote: “Those 'old leavers' were British people who exercised their democratic right to vote & assumed the decision of the Referendum would be honoured.
“For you to dismiss them in such a disgustingly callous manner is an absolute disgrace. Delete this.”
But Ms Toynbee hit back saying: “Nothing ‘callous’ Piers, just demographic fact. Facts not your strong point, maybe…”
And Brexiteer Julia Hartley-Brewer waded in, saying: “Remoaner @pollytoynbee rejoicing in the deaths of old people to further her cause. And they have the cheek to call us Leavers ‘extremist’?

“What’s extraordinary is that the Remoaners making this absurd demographic argument for a 2nd referendum aren’t even saying it in private, behind closed doors. They’re saying it in national newspapers! They have no shame.”
Others threw down the gauntlet to Ms Toynbee, saying she had “lost the plot” and had hit “new lows”.
One said: “What an absurd thing to say. A final say referendum? On what exactly? And presumably not for young leave voters? I did nearly die myself in 2016 but unfortunately for hard line remainers I survived.”
A Twitter user tweeted: “This tweet is disgraceful, and just shows the tolerant left are in fact intolerant Polly Toynbee is a disgrace and should be sacked for this article
Another added: “You've hit a new low. Which for you I did not think possible.”
