There's long been a fascination with the lifestyles of the royal family - as played out spectacularly on screen in hits such as Netflix's The Crown - from the strict royal protocols they must follow to their particular eating habits.
So, after learning that the Queen allegedly drinks four cocktails per day we were equally intrigued to find out exactly how her sister, the late Princess Margaret, spent her mornings. According to an excerpt from Ma’am Darling by Craig Brown, it was a very lavish and relaxed affair.
The late princess' routine would begin around 9am when she would first wake up. Brown stated that she would have "breakfast in bed, followed by two hours in bed listening to the radio, reading the newspapers (which she invariably left scattered over the floor) and chain-smoking".
After a leisurely two-hour breakfast and catch-up with the news, she would get up at 11am and have a bath - which was run by one of her lady's maids.
Then, around midday, "an hour in the bath [would be] followed by hair and make-up at her dressing table, [before putting] on some clean clothes - as one would imagine of a princess, she never wore any of her clothes more than once without having them cleaned."
Then, at 12.30, Margaret would make her way downstairs for a "vodka pick-me-up".
Finally, at 1pm she would join "the Queen Mother for a four-course lunch served in an informal manner from silver dishes, with half a bottle of wine per person plus fruit and half a dozen different varieties of native and Continental cheeses."
